I was amazed when I read the quote from Janeal Lee when she said that she felt she lost her title as Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin because she wasn’t “disabled enough“. This was the exact phrase I heard countless many times from the staff at ACIL; you wern’t disabled unless you were in a wheelchair, for example. Cindy Lange-Kubick quotes Lee in her article saying “The way they see it, you’re either 100 percent disabled or 0 percent disabled, when in reality everyone is somewhere in between. It gives a narrow view of who a person with a disability is.” Lee is 100% absolutely correct in her perception.
