John McCain: We can get rid of those extra border agents in conference committee

“We don’t need 20,000 additional border patrol agents,” McCain said Tuesday. “But what we do need is use of technology that has been developed where we can survey the border more effectively.”

Way wrong answer! He is displaying the same irrational behavior as CIA did in the 1970s when Stansfield Turner was DCI (Director of Central Intelligence). He honestly believed that satellites and other similar assets could take the place of human intelligence (HUMINT). So when the Iranians began their campaign to take over our embassy in 1979, there was no HUMINT they could point to so that they could have the information necessary. When President Carter asked Turner what the intelligence (HUMINT) was saying, his only action was to blame others and not the person in the mirror. It took billions and billions of dollars and countless hours of work to bring CIA back to where it should be. His successor Bill Casey was furious at what Turner had done. McCain’s suggestion goes in the face of what is actually needed to strengthen the border.
