Ohio House Bill 371 — Parental rights under attack in Ohio

January 22, 2010 Leave a comment

HB 371 [summary of the bill] would repeal the terms “abused”, “neglected”, and “dependent” children in major sections of Ohio’s civil code and create a new category – “a child in need of protective services” This shift in core terms in state law will affect every Ohio family with minor children, because it will clearly broaden the net cast by child protective service agencies to justify an increase in the state’s intervention into the home.

Proposed R.C. 2151.03 defines a “child in need of protective services” to be one in which ONE act or omission of a parent (or guardian / legal custodian) results in the occurrence of ONE of the following: physical harm, sexual harm, emotional harm, exposure to substance misuse (not substance abuse), lacking necessary healthcare, lacking a legally required education, lacking necessary care or supervision. It is the definition of such terms that should cause every family to be concerned. (pp. 56-58)

Beyond the fact that the definition of “physical harm” includes a reference to “corporal punishment” (spanking), it is important to consider these categories in the context of what has traditionally been understood to be abuse and neglect in comparison to what would clearly be understood to be the imperfections and uncertainties of normal parenting in typical families (i.e. childhood accidents).

Please contact your State Representative and ask him or her to vote NO on HB 371 should it come to the House floor. Let him or her know you support laws that protect children from real abuse and neglect, but do not support changing the system to give unlimited state access into our homes.

It was introduced by State Representatives Connie Pillich (D – 28) and Robin Belcher (D – 10) with State Representatives Ron Amstutz (R – 3), Kevin Bacon (R – 21), Linda S. Bolon (D – 1), Barbara Boyd (D – 9), Ted Celeste (D – 24), Kathleen Chandler (D – 68), Courtney Eric Combs (R – 54), Timothy J. DeGeeter (D – 15), John Domenick (D – 95), Lorraine M. Hagan (D – 60), Marian Harris (D – 19), Tom Letson (D – 64), Dennis Murray (D – 80), Deborah Newcomb (D – 99), Mark D. Required reading: Woodrow Wilson and the Roots of Modern Liberalism

January 22, 2010 Leave a comment

Glenn Beck had mentioned this on his radio and TV programs several times, and I finally have been able to read this fantastic book by Ronald J. Pestritto.

I had read years ago that Wilson was a racist, but never knew the extent of his hatred towards other races until now. This hatred continues today through liberals and progressives today in their policies concerning welfare and abortion. On 22 February 1881 Wilson wrote that through government education, the black race could be “reclaimed from ignorance and indolence”. In 1908, he wrote Constitutional Government of the United States (CGOTUS) where in Chapter One he dismisses the precept that “all men are equal” by asserting this is false. He wrote that a necessary condition for lasting democracy was the “homogeneity of race and community of thought and purpose among the people.”

Time after time he writes about this overwhelming hatred for our founding documents. In CGOTUS he describes the inalienable rights that all Americans enjoy of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as “nonsense”. This explains why the left is in favor of abortion, opposed to the Tea Party movement, and why they want to dictate and regulate how you live every nanosecond of your life. Pestritto writes that “In explicit opposition to the Declaration’s natural law foundation for liberty, Wilson responded that ‘liberty fixed in unalterable law would be no liberty at all’.” This is found in Chapter One of CGOTUS.

In an essay he wrote on 5 December 1891, entitled “Democracy” he wrote that liberty isn’t found in freedom from the state but in one’s obedience to the laws of the state. In an address to the Jefferson Club of Los Angeles on 12 May 1911, Wilson said that “if you want to understand the Declaration of Independence, do not repeat the preface“. It was when I read this that I began to have a more clearer understanding of the thought process of liberals and progressives. Why does he command that the preface be omitted? It’s because it addresses how our rights emanate from God and not man.

On 22 August 1887 he wrote in “Socialism and Democracy” that “socialism and democracy are almost if not quite one and the same. They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members.” He then laid forth the principle that exists today among the left in the rights of the group over the rights of the individual when he says that “Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals. Limits of wisdom and convenience to the public control there may be: limits of principle there are, upon strict analysis, none.” On 23 September 1912, Wilson remarked how Thomas Jefferson “said that the best government is that which does as little governing as possible. But that time has passed. America is not now and cannot in the future be a place for unrestricted individual enterprise.”

Wilson hated the fact that each state had their own legislature describing this as a “serious” threat to the power that exists in Washington, and even went on to describe the then forty-eight governmental bodies as “evil”. He encouraged all “grave, thoughtful and perspicacious men all around us” to “agree in deriding those ‘Fourth of July’ sentiments”. Is anyone this beginning to sound familiar. It is the left who repeatedly denigrates those proudly displaying the flag and taking pride in our nation. Conversely, those on the right not only display the flag and take pride in our nation, but encourage all Americans to follow in their example.

The wish of liberals and progressives for the fall of our republic and Constitution isn’t a new phenomenon. On 19 June 1876 Wilson wrote “The American Republic will in my opinion never celebrate another Centennial. At least under the present Constitution and laws.” He was also quite prophetic when on 16 June 1876, he wrote that “The democRATs will be very likely to abuse power if they get it.”

What liberals and progressives fail to understand is that liberty is a gift from God and not government or man. Conservatives not only understand this basic tenant of our founding documents, but we not only preach this fundamental truth, but live it as well. Liberals on the other hand, attempt to not only eliminate God and religion as a whole in our day to day lives, but to replace it with an alternate deity — be it Al Gore and the hoax of global warming, the environmental whackos who want us to worship the earth, or the current occupant of the Oval Office who the lamestream media led by PMSNBC demand that we worship.

Finally, one thing Wilson said should have served as a warning for the democRATs this past Tuesday, and as a future warning for this falls elections. On 5 January 1911, at a lecture in Jersey City, New Jersey, he said that the democRAT party was an instrument to “serve the people, or take the consequences.”
